So...links. I debated when setting up the new site what I wanted to do with a links page, seeing as how I'd left the old one with umm...no links for well over a year. I was all set to try and set up a diverse and interesting links page, but I don't really have that many to post, so I've decided to just do the comics and news, etc. that I read on a regular basis. Interesting? Maybe. Enlightening? I doubt it. Takes up space? Definitely.
Comics
If I could accurately tally the amount of time I've wasted reading online comics, it would be truly frightening. These are the ones that I seemed to have settled on (or at least the ones that still exist).
If I could accurately tally the amount of time I've wasted reading online comics, it would be truly frightening. These are the ones that I seemed to have settled on (or at least the ones that still exist).
- Sluggy Freelance - The quintessential web comic.
- Penny Arcade - Opinionated video game humor.
- Megatokyo - Manga starring computer geeks stranded in Japan. Oh the agony.
- Ozy & Millie - Amusing philosophical anthropomorphic animals. Written by a fellow Greener Grad
- PVP - Fairly amusing comic about a video game magazine that's often overshadowed (for better or worse) by it's author.
- Dr. Fun - It's like an oddly drawn, less inspired Far Side with more focus on bad pun humor. But every month or so I'll fall out of my chair laughing at one, so I keep reading. It's also one of the oldest web comics that are still going.
- Bruno - Drama comic about a perennially depressed girl. Start from the beginning.
- Diesel Sweeties - Potty humor done with pixelated characters and an indie slant.
- User Friendly - Not sure why I still read this.
- Kevin & Kell - It's consistent. I think that's why I continue to read it.
- Dilbert - Surely you know Dilbert.
- Pitchfork Media - The place to go for music reviews when you're just not feeling opinionated enough.
- Last Plane to Jakarta - John Darnielle(of Mountain Goats...um..fame?)'s music review/commentary site. Browse the old archives - they're highly amusing.
- eMusic - Where I get much of my music. Unlike the major more publicized music sites like Steve Jobs' baby, eMusic let's you download in mp3, which why they get my money every month.
- IMDB - I have a sneaking suspicion you've seen this before.
- Rotten Tomatoes - The answer to the subjectivity of movie reviews.
- Netflix - I don't really want to do a product endorsement here, but I really do like it.
- The Onion - The only news I really trust.
- Google News - Indispensible. Untouched by humans. Still in beta.
- Salon - Good news site, but this year has reminded me exactly how liberal a slant it has.
- Slashdot - If you're a geek you already know about it, and you either shun it, read it, or don't care.
