So here is my travel journal from my backpacking trip to Europe. It's more involved than my day log stuff that's already been up the site. There has been some complaining (you know who you are) that my daylog was rather boring and that it focused too much on the details of transportation. I can't promise that this is less boring, but's there's certainly a hell of lot more of it. Occasional parts of the journal have been omitted to protect the (not-so)innocent. These parts really weren't that common, but hey - use your imagination. Keep in mind that this is a journal and things like punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph breaks, grammar, and spelling may or may not been a part of the writing process. Not to mention my almost criminal use of parenthesis. Like my pictures, the writing is quite erratic as far as consistency of content. The journal style kind of mutates over the course of the trip. Read at your own risk.

5/4 - Bayeux, France

So the Versailles thing didn't really work out very well. I apparently got on the wrong train, it still went to Versailles, it just took a very out of the way route. So after it taking the an hour to get there as opposed to 30 minutes, I got to the chateau and it was mobbed. I looked around and decided that I just didn't care enough to wait in half hour lines, so I left. I had my cheese and bread lunch under some trees down the road and headed back to Paris. Having decided to go Bayeux, to see the d-day beaches I tried to figure out which train station to go to. I ended up going through 3 train stations, and I couldn't get a train earlier than 7:20. After a little internal debate on whether I should go, I decided to risk it even though I wouldn't be getting to the hostel until 10:00. It worked out fine, I'm currently staying at the Family Home hostel. It's a decent hostel, but the manager is this grumpy old woman who seems rather annoyed that she has to deal with the people staying here. It wasn't that bad for me but several people told me they had to wait for almost an hour to get a room while being actively ignored by the manager. Still, it's fairly nice and breakfast was very good (cereal, croissants, cheese) as opposed to the Y&H (bread only). Even though I got in late I stumbled into a group of people sitting around drinking wine. Got sucked in of course and spent a couple hours just hanging out. Then of course a few of us ended up at a irish pub of sorts (this makes 5 nights ina row that I've gone out). Entertaining time, with 4 canadians and 1 american. ?,Jen,?,Kevin The 4 canadians(2 guys and 2 girls) eventually paired off, which seemed to really bother the guy from boston(he was also taking the pool game Apparently different colors than American Pool a little too seriously). Didn't get back to the hostel until about 3 am.
