So here is my travel journal from my backpacking trip to Europe. It's more involved than my day log stuff that's already been up the site. There has been some complaining (you know who you are) that my daylog was rather boring and that it focused too much on the details of transportation. I can't promise that this is less boring, but's there's certainly a hell of lot more of it. Occasional parts of the journal have been omitted to protect the (not-so)innocent. These parts really weren't that common, but hey - use your imagination. Keep in mind that this is a journal and things like punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph breaks, grammar, and spelling may or may not been a part of the writing process. Not to mention my almost criminal use of parenthesis. Like my pictures, the writing is quite erratic as far as consistency of content. The journal style kind of mutates over the course of the trip. Read at your own risk.

5/7 - Barcelona, Spain

Made it to Barcelona fine. Found my hostel all right, the Hostal Levante. Turned out to be a fairly boring hostel. There was a group of french speakers from Geneva, but they didn't seem very interested in talking to me. Ah well, I needed to catch up on my sleep anyway. After checking in I walked around a bit, then stopped and had dinner. I found myself getting unintentionally a bit drunk because I tried some sangria, which I ordered in the smallest increment available. That turned out to be a whole pitcher, which I couldn't let go to waste, even if I was alone. I switched hostels this morning to get something cheaper and hopefully more lively. Today I did a bit more exploring, I went and saw a couple of buildings which were designed by Gaudí. Casa Batllo on La Manzana de la Discordia Casa Mila Very cool. More buildings need to be designed like that. After that I went to L'Aquarium, which, according to the guidebook, is the largest aquarium in Europe. If that's the case, Europe must not have much in the way of aquariums. Pretty disappointing and definitely not worth the €11.50 I paid for it. Barcelona Aquarium After that I went to the Museu Picasso. It was interesting, but not very impressive. It's supposed to show a progression of works throughout his career, but of course excludes all the very famous ones. The museum is guarded like a prison, there's a guard in every room and you have to check any bags you have. I got yelled at for leaning in a stone doorway.
