So here is my travel journal from my backpacking trip to Europe. It's more involved than my day log stuff that's already been up the site. There has been some complaining (you know who you are) that my daylog was rather boring and that it focused too much on the details of transportation. I can't promise that this is less boring, but's there's certainly a hell of lot more of it. Occasional parts of the journal have been omitted to protect the (not-so)innocent. These parts really weren't that common, but hey - use your imagination. Keep in mind that this is a journal and things like punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph breaks, grammar, and spelling may or may not been a part of the writing process. Not to mention my almost criminal use of parenthesis. Like my pictures, the writing is quite erratic as far as consistency of content. The journal style kind of mutates over the course of the trip. Read at your own risk.

5/9 - Madrid, Spain

Made it to Madrid fine. Found the hostel then grabbed some breakfast while I waited for reception to open up. The hostel is nice, but the very antithesis of social. Oh well, I think I need to only choose hostels that have dorm style lodging because every time I get a cheap single, it's a dud as far as meeting people. Kind of lax day, just walked around mostly feeling fairly out of it. I did go see the Prado, which was pretty cool. My favorite had to be Hieronymous Bosch's 'Garden of Earthly Delights'. Not only did I find out where a cryptic Dead Can Dance album cover came from(a small section of this painting) Section of The Garden of Earthly Delights (used on a Dead Can Dance album cover), I was amazed at the style of the picture. It reminds me of a primitive Dalí, but this was made around 400 years before Dalí. Seeing as how I haven't met anyone here (there were a couple of american students earlier in the day I talked to when getting lunch at a nice kebab place, but only briefly), I was too tired to brave the bars alone. I toyed with going to see a movie, but unlike the French, the Spanish seem to dub all American movies. Damn them.
