Portland: Day around St. Johns
4/24/05 -
One weekend Kirstin and I took a day and walked around St. Johns, mainly because I'd lived here almost a year and hadn't really explored it other than the Thai resturant down the street and Goodwill. It's actually a pretty cool area. I just happen to live in the rather shady corner of it. Ah well. Besides the commercial area and Pier Park, we happened to walk down to a beach off of the railroad tracks. There must have been a major fire down there at some point, because large portions of the beach are made up of fused metal (not to mention the obviously burnt remains of a dock). Pretty neat. Anyone know of any major fires in the area between the Railroad Bridge and the St. John's Bridge in the last century?
